Quilted Artistry

Welcome to Quilted Artistry! I have been passionate about quilts and quiltmaking for over 25 years. As times have changed, so has my focus on style, color and patterns.

My business officially began in 2007. I had retired from the business world in 2005 and discovered that I finally had enough time to pursue my passion for working with fabric, color, design, and patterns. My inspiration grew from a crazy quilt that my grandmother had made many, many years ago. Touching the soft velvets and cottons and tracing the frayed applique with my fingers created a desire to explore quiltmaking -- the patterns and their history as well as the types of applique stitches and quilting patterns.

After making bed quilts for every member of my family, I began making quilted wall hangings. I took a few different classes and learned new techniques which have helped save time in the overall quiltmaking process. A few years ago, I teamed with a friend who is an artist and we produced several wall hangings -- floral arrangements painted on muslin. She painted, I framed, batted, and quilted! Many of these wall hangings became treasured wall hangings of friends and clients.

I live on a wooded acre of land in Maine; there is a small pond in my backyard. I have begun to design my own patterns from the natural wonders I am fortunate to have surrounding me -- water lilies, loons, turtles, wild flowers. Even my home has been designed into a wonderful quilted wall hanging! My goal is to produce more original designs and combine my quilting with other types of needlework.

I believe in preserving the historical nature of quiltmaking and so chose to hand quilt or tie the majority of my pieces. My philosophy is changing, however, to save valuable time; I now machine quilt items such as placemats, table runners, small wall hangings.

It is now 7 years since I started my business; I have decided to spend more time enjoying my surroundings -- Acadia National Park is a short distance from my little town as are many beautiful islands and places to kayak and canoe. I am enjoying gardening and helping others establish their own home gardens, seniors and children alike. Therefore, I am going to retire my business on June 1st of this year (2014). I have revised my website to only include items that I would like to sell; they all have been reduced for you.
